The local area
Groceries, restaurants, and things to do around Aarhus.
Groceries
- Rema 1000 — the closest supermarket.
- Netto — a bit further away.
- Bilka — the widest selection by far. We usually shop through Bilka ToGo: order everything online, drive over, and they load it straight into the trunk of your car. They can also deliver to the door, but we usually go with pickup.
Restaurants & takeaway
Honestly: if you’re after good food, head into the Aarhus city centre — the local places in Tilst are mainly fast food. A good place to start is Tripadvisor’s restaurant list for Aarhus.
- Delivery: we recommend the Wolt app.
- Something quick: order from Pizza Toppers directly on their website — usually at your door in about 30 minutes.
Things to do
Some classics in and around Aarhus:
- ARoS Art Museum — the rainbow panorama on the roof is worth it alone
- Den Gamle By — open-air museum of Danish town life
- Moesgaard Museum — striking architecture, great for kids too
- The Latin Quarter — cafés and small shops in the old town
- Marselisborg forests & beaches — a short drive south
Amusement & animal parks
If you’re up for a day trip, these are all within driving range:
- Tivoli Friheden (~20 min) — classic amusement park right in Aarhus
- Randers Regnskov (~35 min) — tropical rainforest zoo under domes in Randers
- Djurs Sommerland (~50 min) — one of Denmark’s biggest summer parks, a family favourite
- Ree Park Safari (~55 min) — safari park near Ebeltoft with animals from five continents
- Givskud Zoo (~1 hour) — drive-through safari park with lions and elephants
- Legoland (~1¼ hours) — the original LEGO park in Billund
Getting around
- Bus: lines 3A and 14 run between Tilst and Aarhus — see Arrival & check-in for links to timetables.
- Taxi: use Uber.
- E-bikes: unfortunately the Lime bikes are geofenced and can’t take you from the city centre to Tilst.
