Heating & hot water

The house has underfloor heating. Please leave the thermostats as they are — the floors react slowly, so adjustments take many hours to have an effect.

Water is included in the price, so enjoy your showers.

Summer heat

In the summer it can get quite hot in the house because of the big windows. We recommend opening the doors and the big sliding door in the living room to get good ventilation going. There’s also a fan on top of the closet in the boys’ room.

Kitchen

We’ve cleared some drawers in the kitchen so you have room for your own groceries. Feel free to use or eat anything you find in the fridge.

Coffee

Three ways to make coffee, pick your style:

Oven & stove

The oven is old and can be a bit quirky at times (it will be replaced soon). On the stove, we recommend the back-left burner — it works the most consistently.

Dishwasher

Dishwasher tabs are in the jar on the windowsill.

Gas grill

There’s a small gas grill in the garden. If you run out of gas, there’s a full canister in the shed.

Washing machine & dryer

The washing machine and dryer are in the washroom, on the right-hand side as you come in from the entrance hall. Feel free to use our detergent, or bring your own.

A note on dosing: the water here is hard (fairly chalky), so you may need a bit more detergent than you’re used to — we usually use a full lid of the liquid detergent.

Towels

You’re welcome to use the towels in the bottom drawer in the big bathroom. There are also smaller ones in the small bathroom, in the open wooden box on the shelf to the left.

Cleaning

If you need a vacuum cleaner, it’s in the last closet in the washroom, along with a bucket and mop.

TV

The TV has a Chromecast and a few smart apps. Feel free to use the apps that are already signed in (Netflix and Disney+) — or cast from your phone with your own accounts.

Trash & recycling

In Aarhus we sort trash thoroughly. The containers outside are:

In the kitchen, use the two bins under the sink for food waste and residual waste — you’ll find bin bags there too. For the rest, we just make a pile and carry it out without bags: plastic, metal, glass, paper and cardboard should go into the containers unbagged.
